839 CL&P Customers Lose Power In New Canaan

UPDATE 7 p.m.: NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Windy weather knocked out power to more than 800 New Canaan customers Tuesday afternoon, according to Connecticut Light & Power.

As of 7 p.m., 839 CL&P customers were without power, about 10 percent of the utility's customers in New Canaan. The turbulent weather prompted the New Canaan Food Pantry to postpone its opening Tuesday night. The food pantry will be open from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Fairfield County until 11 p.m. Tuesday. There is also a wind advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Wind gusts of 50 and 55 mph are predicted for the area. The weather service urges drivers to use extra caution.
