“We’re not beginners,” said Gloria, one of Waveny’s resident artists who exhibited several pieces in the art show. “And, art is one thing we all have in common.”
The collection represented a body of work created over the past year by Waveny Care Center and Village residents and Adult Day participants in the art programs and classes led by art therapist and Waveny therapeutic recreation leader, Brenda Jacobsen.
“Art is a way we can express our thoughts instead of saying them out loud,” said resident artist, Hazel, who had several pieces featured. “It’s a different way of speaking. And, each one of us excels at something different.”
Pieces on display encompassed multiple mediums including watercolor, pastels and colored pencil. “It’s an honor,” said Waveny artist, Rose, with regard to showcasing her work for the community.
