Walter Stewart's Market is holding a special "T-Bill" Donation Days drive to support AmeriCares and its relief efforts for earthquake and tsunami survivors in Japan. Customers may donate their T-Bill balances at any checkout from Thursday, March 24, to Wednesday, March 30. Walter Stewart's will match all designated T-Bills with a monetary donation to AmeriCares, the Stamford-based global health and disaster relief organization that has a response team on the ground in Japan working directly with hospitals and local officials to meet the health needs of survivors.
We are preparing to deliver medicines, personal hygiene products and other humanitarian aid to hospitals and shelters housing the hundreds of thousands of people left homeless by the disaster. AmeriCares also plans to assist with long-term efforts to rebuild Japans health care system, much like we did in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and Southeast Asia after the 2004 tsunami, said Jennifer Martins, senior associate of special events for AmeriCares.
In 2010, Walter Stewarts Market donated $8,542 to AmeriCares, proceeds from its Haiti Relief T-Bill drive.
Shoppers who would like to participate in the Donation Days program may obtain a courtesy card from Walter Stewarts customer service staff or may apply online at www.StewartsMarket.com.
