The following letter from New Canaan resident Tanya Bickley to the New Canaan Town Council addresses her concerns about Wednesday night's public hearing on whether to install sidewalks on the southern end of Main Street.
Dear Town Council:
The referendum on the Lower Main Street Sidewalks resulted in a fairly close vote, with residents from all over New Canaan participating. As you all know, the sidewalks have been and continue to be a closely watched and scrutinized public process. It is inconceivable to me that the Town Council would hold a public hearing on the choice of the sidewalk location during the last week of July, one of the busiest vacation weeks of the entire year.
Disappointed in your scheduling choice is the only polite choice of words I can come up with! Why are you rushing ahead in the dog days of late July/early August when so many people are away, unaware of your public hearing and unable to comment? In my case, my family is visiting, a cherished family vacation, and I am writing very early in the morning before everyone wakes up.
What do you think of the Town Council scheduling the sidewalk hearing for tonight? Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page.
