Shoppers Asked to Help Animals

To ask shoppers on Elm Street to help care for abused animals, Megan Friel-McCoy started with a simple question. "We ask how they are doing today. And then we ask if they want to help fight animal cruelty, and they usually say, 'yes,'" says Friel-McCoy.

Friel-McCoy, a Fairfield resident, along with colleagues Tanaia Sherffield and Brittany Maltas, canvassed on behalf of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Saturday afternoon, asking passersby to make a donation or get involved with the ASPCA. Though they also canvass in cities like Fairfield and New Haven, they said they had a lot of success in New Canaan, with residents and visitors stopping to donate or talk about their pets.

"Even if they aren't able to donate, they are still supporters and they still care about it," says Friel-McCoy.
