Rhythm & Blues Band Plays Waveny

Billy and the Showmen will take the stage on Wednesday night in Waveny Park to continue this summer's Waveny Summer Concert Series. "We're a bunch of well-versed rhythm and blues players coming to New Canaan," says the band's leader, Billy Frenz.

He encourages anyone who loves good music to come to the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m. The band has played throughout the Northeast for 40 years, backing up popular acts like Billy Vera and The Chiffons. "We've been playing rock 'n' roll forever," says Billy.

The Waveny Summer Concert Series events are free, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and picnics. Billy recommends having one other item, too. "Bring your dancing shoes," he says.

If it rains, the show will be postponed until Thursday evening instead. Call the Recreation Department's hotline at (203) 594-3610 after 3 p.m. today to find out if the show has been rescheduled.
