Fundraising for the All Out for Autism Race will hit the ground running Thursday with a silent auction benefit at the Roger Sherman Inn. The silent auction offers prizes such as a hot-air balloon ride with champagne, gift certificates to stores and restaurants, and tickets to see a Broadway show.
"A lot of the merchants in New Canaan were very generous," says Ron Rosenfeld, the race director.
The Special Education Network of New Canaan and New Balance sponsor the race. The goal is to help build a fitness path in Waveny Park with sensory stations to benefit individuals with autism. Last year, more than 300 people attended the race, which will be held Aug. 27 this year.
Thursday's silent auction benefit is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is a $25 donation to the race. All proceeds from the event will go toward the fitness path.
"It's a great cause, because this fitness path that we're going to build at Waveny is going to be for the whole community," says Ron, owner of New Balance on Main Street. "It's something this community can be proud of."
To attend the silent auction, email denise@spednet.org to RSVP or just show up at the door.
