New Canaan's Sherman Inn Hosts First-Ever Easter Egg Hunt

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Easter Sunday at the Roger Sherman Inn is typically busy with families coming to get a bite to eat after attending services at nearby churches in New Canaan. This year, it will be even more festive.

For the first time, the landmark inn will host an Easter egg hunt. Beth Sanford, marketing director for the inn, said it wanted to host something for visitors who are out and about after church services or gatherings.

“We thought it would be fun to engage people coming by or leaving church to come and find the eggs,” Sanford said.

About 1,000 plastic eggs will be scattered outside the inn. Each egg will have something inside: a piece of chocolate candy or certificates for discounts on food and drinks at the inn. Children and adults will be allowed to search, and visitors don’t have to dine to participate.

Sanford said it’s nice to have an egg hunt on Easter Sunday. The Young Women’s League of New Canaan has an annual egg hunt at Waveny Park, but it usually takes place a couple of weeks before the holiday.

“We see it as a neighborly thing to do,” she said.

Egg hunts will take place at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday.
