NEW CANAAN, Conn. Doing business in the world economy will be the focus of an address this weekend from business leader and New Canaan resident Jeffrey Immelt.
The General Electric chairman is the speaker for the New Canaan Librarys annual Conversations with Business Leaders lecture, scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at the Seldin Performing Arts Center at St. Lukes School.
Conversations with Business Leaders is an opportunity to learn from some of the most dynamic leaders in the business world. Immelt will discuss the worlds economy.
Immelt is the ninth chairman of GE, a post he has held since Sept. 7, 2001. He has been named one of the world's best CEOs three times by Barron's. Immelt has held several global leadership positions since joining GE, including roles in the companys plastics, appliance and health care businesses. Immelt joined General Electric in 1982, became an officer in 1989 and joined board of GE Capital in 1997. In 2000, he was appointed president and chief executive officer.
Immelt earned a bachelors degree in applied mathematics from Dartmouth College in 1978 and a masters degree from Harvard University in 1982. He and his wife have one daughter.
