New Canaanites Hope Snow Is a No-Go

Janecke Madsen loves snow, especially if enough of it falls so she can strap on her cross-country skis. But with temperatures in New Canaan in the 50s Wednesday and the first leaves showing on the trees in sunny Irwin Park, Madsen thinks it’s a little too late for more white stuff.

“We’ve seen enough of the snow and cold,” said Madsen, of Ponus Ridge Road, who enjoyed an afternoon walk with her daughter’s dog Jackie. “Everyone has cabin fever. The crocuses are out, and we want it to be spring.”

The possibility of more snow caused plenty of worry among New Canaanites longing to see more warm and sunny days like Wednesday. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a slight chance of rain or snow Wednesday evening with rain or snow likely for Thursday and temperatures in the mid 40s. Friday’s forecast indicates rain or snow will fall with high temperatures in the 40s.

Madsen, who admits she missed most of the heavy snow from the winter while in Florida, tried to speak positively when asked whether she feared a heavy dumping of white stuff. “I don’t think it will amount to much,” she said.
