New Canaan Women Sell Treasures – Within Reason

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Chandeliers, cars, toasters – even the kitchen sink. If you’re moving out of your home, New Canaan residents Kelly Daniel and Amy Reehl want to help you clear out your old place and get a little money to boot.

Daniel and Reehl are the owners of Within Reason CT LLC, a company specializing in estate sales. As homeowners begin the process of selling a home their family has occupied for years, the women step in to price and sell the inventory.

“It’s less than what you’d pay at a store, but more than at a tag sale,” said Daniel, who also works at Halstead Properties in New Canaan. “Here you can get great deals.  You can buy things you would normally get at an antiques shop.”

They got into the business last July when they assisted a woman who was emptying her North Wilton Road home. Now, they work on two to three homes each month, selling housewares, silverware, beds, paintings, jewelry and even chess sets.

Not every job involves antiques. They have also assisted in selling modern amenities, including DJ turntables and flat-screen television sets. “Every job is different, and we really get to know our clients.”

This weekend, Daniel and Reehl are labeling and pricing items at the former home of Arthur Nichols on Wahackame Lane for sales Friday and Saturday. Though it usually takes a couple of weeks to list the inventory, Daniel and Reehl are picking up the pace and plan to be ready in four days.

Items for sale in the Nichols household this weekend include silverware, old books, a bed in the master bedroom and antique bottles, including one that features the New Canaan town seal.  “People are looking for lots of collectibles,” said Reehl, who owns an online business. “They loved signed items and artwork.”

The only things they will not sell are liquor or firearms – everything else is Within Reason.
