New Canaan Urged to 'Zumba For Rocco' on Tuesday

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – A Stamford charity group will work up a sweat with residents Tuesday night to assist a young boy in need.

Backyard Humanitarian will host a special Zumba For Rocco event, beginning at 7 p.m. at St. Aloysius School on South Avenue. Backyard Humanitarian, founded by Stamford native Angela Margaret Malizia, will be joined by Zumba For a Cause and AJ The DJ to help raise funds for Rocco Buzzeo. Rocco, 12, is battling hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH, a rare blood disorder.

Malizia said Backyard Humanitarian has worked with Zumba For A Cause director Michele Ayoub in previous events and thought it only right to bring out the community to have fun and raise money for a good cause.

"When you dance, you feel good. When you're helping another person, it feels good. It's feel good all around," Malizia said. She said she would love to fill the St. Aloysius gymnasium to raise money to help Rocco and his family. Attendees are asked to arrive early to register. Participants are asked to contribute $20, but children may attend for free.
