The Turkey Trot, which begins at 11 a.m. Nov. 24, is a fundraiser for the Open Door Norwalk Emergency Shelter. This year’s trot promises to feature a walk through the trail of Irwin Park and a 5K race, according to a press release. The event is organized by a team of New Canaan locals, including Kelly and K.C. Clark, Teddy Schoenholtz and PJ Reinemann. The Turkey Trot "provides much-needed funds over the busy holiday season," according to the release.

“The Turkey Trot is an excellent way to provide assistance to the needy during Thanksgiving," said co-chair Kelly Clark in the press release. "Thanks to the support of many New Canaan residents, we have been able to offer much needed assistance over the past decade. We hope to see many new faces at this years event in the hopes of continuing our commitment to the local homeless and showing the full support of New Canaan for the less fortunate.

"In the years following the economic crisis, the shelter has seen a huge increase in homeless clients and a decrease in donor contributions, which has created a large shortfall," representatives wrote in the release. "They currently project that they do not have enough funds to provide hot meals over the holidays to all of their clients."

Donations can be sent to Clark 108 Wahackme Road, New Canaan, CT 06840.
