New Canaan School To Dish Up Lunch, Supply Water

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – New Canaan High School will be open Friday — not for classes but to help feed hot meals to town residents who are still in the dark.

The school will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Friday serving hot dogs, hamburgers, fruit and cookies to people waiting for power to be restored to their homes, Superintendent of Schools David Abbey announced Thursday. As of 10 p.m. Thursday, 59 percent of the town’s Connecticut Light & Power customers were powerless after Hurricane Irene pounded through on Sunday.

Staff at the high school will also provide bottled water and hoses to fill up containers. Bottled water and hoses will also be available at West Elementary School from noon to 4 p.m. Friday.
