New Canaan Rain Clouds Have Cool Silver Lining

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Take away the afternoon showers and Stephanie Kwiatkowski would consider Monday afternoon perfect.

“I wish it weren’t raining, but it’s better than it was most of last week,” the 21-year-old said as she waited for a train at the New Canaan Metro-North station.

Last week’s extreme heat broke on Sunday, and Monday proved even cooler, providing a break for Kwiatkowski and others who had had more than enough of 100-plus-degree heat indexes. She was protected from the rainfall waiting under the canopy at the station, though she would have preferred more sun and a day at Jones Beach instead.

Elsewhere on the platform, Robert Chipps, 54, of Stamford, enjoyed his lunch from New Canaan’s Food Emporium. He also enjoyed the cooler, more pleasant weather, even though most of his work day is spent indoors. “With the heat, I worried about older people and kids,” he said. “This is a lot better.”

Forecasts call for rain to continue Monday tonight. For the next three days, skies will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid to upper 80s.
