NEW CANAAN, Conn. The sight of a dozen green and tan apparatuses in Waveny Park is the realization of Ron Rosenfeld's dream to bring people together under the banner of fitness.
Rosenfeld, co-owner of New Balance New Canaan, and Sped*Net worked for several years to develop the Waveny Park Fitness Center, which is designed to give park users including those with disabilities a place to work up a sweat by doing moe than just walking. Rosenfeld and others will officially dedicate the Fitness Center at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The equipment was installed earlier this month at a cost of $70,000, with all of the money coming from fundraising events.
Its really exciting, said Rosenfeld. You throw something out years ago and see if it will get done and now its here. The town has been tremendous.
"It's like an outdoor YMCA for free," he said.
Were psyched, added Tina Rosenfeld, also a co-owner of New Balance New Canaan. Its been three years of fundraising to put it all together.
Ron Rosenfeld expects town officials, including First Selectman Jeb Walker, and officials from New Balance to participate in the dedication. It will include the unveiling of a plaque with the names of people and organizations that contributed to paying for the fitness path.
