NEW CANAAN, Conn. Interested in seeing Spider-Man, Buzz Lightyear, and SpongeBob Squarepants all in the same place? Chances are youll see them if youre in Downtown New Canaan on Sunday.
Hundreds of children from in and around New Canaan will show off their costumes on Sunday as part of the annual New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade.
Chamber Executive Director Tucker Murphy expects at least 1,000 children and their parents to take part. The parade will give children and their parents - a chance to get themselves a bag filled with candy and other treats while showing off their creative get-ups.
You get to the parade and everyone looks at each others costumes and they clap and wave, Murphy said. Its one of those good old-fashioned New Canaan traditions that will never go away.
Parade participants will gather in the upper parking lot off Park Street at noon, where they can meet with several merchants who will give bags of candy, take photos and have contests. The procession, to be led by the New Canaan Fire Departments antique Old Faithful fire truck, will start at 1 p.m., travel from Park Street and then on to Elm Street. Parade participants will then make a U-turn at the intersection of Elm and Main streets and come back to the Park/Elm intersection.
For those wanting more Halloween fun after the parade, the New Canaan YMCA will host a Halloween party from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
