New Canaan Firefighters Catch Fish on Valley Road

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Amid all the wind and rain from Tropical Storm Irene, New Canaan firefighters had a chance to enjoy a laugh as they caught a fish in the middle of Valley Road.

While returning from a call Sunday morning, firefighters found the fish in the middle of the road. “We were heading back from a call, and I noticed that there was a fish on the road,” said New Canaan Fire Captain Mike Socci. “There was a little bit of life left in him. We gave him some water on his gills to try to revive, him, but it was too late.”

Firefighters believe the fish reached the road when a nearby pond flooded. Streets around New Canaan continue to be flooded because of the heavy rains.

The town’s curfew remains in effect and residents are asked to stay off the roads until further notice.
