NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- If you are in need of a cold drink--and who isn't on a day like Friday?--the place to be is the corner of South Avenue and Farm Road.
For just 75 cents, passers-by can enjoy a cool cup of lemonade and a few Nilla Wafers, served up by Peter Windas, Bennett Link and his younger brother, Weston Link. The Hawthorne Road boys are keeping alive the traditional lemonade stand on the northwestern corner of the intersection, though a red Radio Flyer wagon substitutes for the booth.
Its fun to do something like this instead of sitting at home, said Peter, 12.
Bennett, 13, said the boys are just selling the lemonade for funand a little extra money for lunch when they go to Chicken Joes restaurant on Elm Street.
The boys have been out every day since Tuesday. Through two hours on Friday, they had collected about $35, though not every customer received a cup of the favored summertime beverage. We had pink lemonade yesterday. Today, weve got yellow, Peter said. They plan to add iced tea and frozen lemonade when they set the stand up again later in the summer.
Bennett said he and his fellow young businessmen will be on the corner at least two times a week for the duration of the summer. Ant they hope joggers will be carrying a little change when they pass by.
