Moms, Kids Bask in Warmth at Mead Park

Ashley Silvestro is hoping the coast is finally clear. A long winter filled with snow and cold has finally given way to spring-like weather. With Thursday’s temperatures in the upper 60s, it was a great time for her to take her twin 3-year-old sons, Christopher and Chase, to Mead Park for a day of play.

“I’m happy because it’s spring. I’m happy because there’s no snow,” Silvestro, 27, of Norwalk, said while watching her kids. “I hate the winter. It’s all depressing and cold.”

The warmth on Thursday had plenty of people in New Canaan feeling ecstatic and relieved that they could step outside without heavy jackets and hats. “It’s gonna be even better (Friday),” Silvestro said, noting that forecasts are calling for sunny skies and a high temperature near 70 degrees.

Friend Christine Bartell, 34, of New Canaan, was also happy to be outside after work as she watched her daughter Juliette, 2, take a few slides in the park. “It was a long day of work, so we decided to come to the park,” Bartell said. Asked why it was fun to be at the park, Juliette said, “Because of mommy.”

Warmth worshipers might want to enjoy the sunny skies while they last. Forecasts are calling for temperatures to fall back into the mid to upper 40s over the weekend with rain Saturday.
