Library to Host Volunteer Training

Joan Quick and Lynn Porsche often volunteer their time at the New Canaan Library, where they say the people are kind and the atmosphere is nurturing. They are encouraging other residents to give a few hours to help the library because it brings them both joy. "I love books and I love reading," said Quick, who has lived in New Canaan for 21 years.

The library is hosting this month's volunteer orientation Friday to show prospective volunteers around the library. "We're always looking for volunteers to help us shelve books, to help us do some filing, copying or all kinds of different projects," said Cynde Lahey, the library's assistant director. She said the library has a big need for volunteers during their major book sales each fall and spring.

The volunteer orientation, which takes place on the second Friday of each month, will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Interested volunteers should meet at the information desk at 10 a.m. Friday. After the orientation, volunteer coordinator Indu Arya meets with volunteers to match their interests with the library's needs.
