The Long Range Planning Committee is hosting a fourth public forum at 5:30 p.m. at New Canaan Town Hall Wednesday to present and solicit comments on a draft of the master plan that addresses significant land use, capital expenditure, facilities, and parking decisions New Canaan faces.
The draft plan contains various alternatives and scenarios for municipal and town use facilities, including town hall, parking, Irwin House, the Waveny Mansion, and the New Canaan Library, a private organization. Based on public comments and interviews with town and library personnel, prior alternatives have been developed more fully to examine capital costs, expense costs, operational efficiencies, and impacts on traffic, parking and town character.
The evening will begin with an open house at 5:30 p.m. where attendees can view design boards with draft scenarios and talk with the project team. At 7 p.m., the project team will present a comprehensive presentation of the various alternatives and scenarios. Alternatives for each project will be discussed as well as scenarios that envision a particular sequence of projects. Public comment will follow the presentation.
The presentation and supporting information is available on the Long Range Planning Committee project website www.nclongrangeplanning.com. The project team hopes that community members will review the information presented, consider the best and highest use of facilities, evaluate long-standing needs of the town, and provide their informed ideas and comments on what best serves the long term interests of the overall town. If you cannot attend the public forum, please email your comments to longrangeplanning@newcanaanct.gov
Following the forum, the committee and project team will analyze the public comments, determine if any additional information is needed and gather it as necessary, review the overall draft ideas and scenarios, and formulate a final recommended plan. The final plan will provide the towns decision makers with:
- a consistent point of reference against which to make decisions
- the ability to make more informed decisions,
- more predictability regarding budgeting and planning,
- the potential to optimize resource use,
- a means to preserve community character, and
- the potential to produce positive economic development.
Please attend the public forum and participate. If you cannot attend, the presentation and comment period will be televised live on Channel 79, NCTV.
