Janet Morency, 65, Former New Canaan Law Secretary

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Janet Dotson Morency, formerly of New Canaan, died April 24 at her home in Weston. She was 65.  

Born Aug. 27, 1946 in Wilton to the late Fred and Edna Dotson, she was a longtime New Canaan resident before moving to Weston five years ago. 

Married to the late Douglas Morency, she began her career as a court reporter for the Stamford Superior Court. Morency later became a legal secretary at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. She enjoyed reading, writing, dancing, music and cooking. 

Morency was active at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in New Canaan, where she taught Sunday school. A pug rescue volunteer, she was passionate about animals, especially her three pugs, Gizmo, Jack and Sasha. 

She is survived by four daughters, Danine Jaykus, of Oceanside, Calif., Casey Jaykus, of Fairfield, Kim Seymour, of Macungie, Pa., and Dana Jaykus, of Weston. Morency was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Merrill. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be private. Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
