Hot New Canaan Weather Can't Stop Man's Workout

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- With the temperature nudging 90 degrees Wednesday afternoon, people might have wondered why Mitchell Stein was lapping the New Canaan High School track. Especially in black khakis and a polo shirt, his work outfit.

Stein says he just wanted to get his legs moving. “I’ve been out running when it’s around 100 degrees,” he said. “I won’t run too much because I don’t want to get soaked.”

Stein’s running opportunity came when the phones at his workplace in Wallingford went dead. So before heading home to Stamford, he dropped by the high school track for a workout. And he had all the room he could hope for: The track was vacant, though people were playing tennis on courts adjacent to the track. “You know it’s really bad when the dogs won’t come out with you,” he said.

The warm weather is expected to continue this week. After a chance of scattered thunderstorms Wednesday evening, the forecast calls for sunny skies Thursday with temperatures in the upper 80s. Thunderstorms are likely Friday, with highs in the upper 70s. The weekend should be pleasant, with temperatures expected to be above 80 under mostly sunny skies.
