Dog Lovers Hail Cesar

Kylie Towbin wants to learn as much as she can so she and her dog, Teddy, can have a great life together.

Good thing that a renowned expert was in town to offer a little advice to her -- and a couple hundred other people.

Cesar Millan, television's "Dog Whisperer," shared some of his tips on raising well-trained dogs with more than 250 people Thursdaya at the New Canaan Library. Several visitors sked Millan questions about how to train and work with their dogs and many wanted to get autographs to go along with Millan's latest book, "Cesar's Rules: Your Way to Train a Well-Behaved Dog."

Mixing humor with his advice, Millan cited respect, honesty and becoming the leader of the pack as important tips to training a dog well. "Dogs don't care about how beautiful you are or how famous you are," he said.

Millan added that Americans can stand to know a little more. "America is a dog-loving nation, but what's missing is knowledge," he said. "My goal is to make a nation of knowledgeable dog lovers."

Kylie Towbin, 13, was happy to hear Millan speak because she watches "Dog Whisperer" regularly with her family. She also hopes his tips will help Teddy, a 4-year-old Lab mix, with his issues of shaking when the fan in their kitchen is turned on.

"I like his idea of training the dog and he just seems like a really down to earth guy," Towbin said. Kylie plans to show off her autograph to her classmates at Saxe Middle School.

Janice Ferrucci of Pocconock Trail wants to go further than that and explore becoming a dog trainer.

"Who wouldn't want to go to work and enjoy what they do?" she said. "He's such an entertaining guy."
