For a day, the town may have been better named New Canine. Dogs of all breeds, shapes, sizes and colors and their human friends went for walks on Cherry Street for the Dog Days of New Canaan.
Vendors catering to man's best friend lined the streets, with many offering free samples of their treats and products, along with pet adoptions and contests for dogs. The whole event benefited a local animal shelter, Strays and Others, the New Canaan Local First iBlast Fund and the New Canaan Police K-9 unit.
"I hope we'll be able to raise much-needed funds for the three charities that are scheduled to benefit from the net proceeds," co-chairwoman Elizabeth McCarthy said. "We hope to establish this as an annual event that is uniquely New Canaan's. We know how much this town loves their dogs."
