Connick will perform in the Derby Winner's Circle at Churchill Downs in Louisville before the big race. His performance will be broadcast live as part of NBC's coverage of the 143rd Running of the Roses.
Connick has performed the anthem at the Super Bowl and World Series but says it will be his first time at the Derby, he told USA Today.
He expects the crowd of 160,000 fans to be one of the biggest crowds he has ever performed for, Connick told USA Today.
It was an easy offer to accept — Connick said his wife, Jill Goodacre, has always wanted to go to the Kentucky Derby, USA Today said.
