What’s Happening In New Canaan This Weekend

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — A performance of the "Wizard of Oz," the SoNo Arts Celebration and the opening of several gallery exhibits at the Silvermine Arts Center highlight events in and around New Canaan this weekend. 

Friday, Aug. 3

"Wizard of Oz" at the Summer Theatre Festival: 10 a.m. Professional actors will perform the musical “Wizard of Oz.” Nine actors will play multiple roles in this rendition of the family classic. Tickets are $16 and tables are available for $40 and $120 depending on how many the table accommodates. Waveny Park, New Canaan High School entrance, 11 Farm Road. 

Town Players Of New Canaan: ‘Living Together’: 8 p.m. The Powerhouse Performing Arts Center will present the comedy “Living Together.” Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Powerhouse Performing Arts Center, Waveny Park, 677 South Ave.

Saturday, Aug. 4

SoNo Arts Celebration: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The annual arts celebration will be held in South Norwalk this weekend. The event celebrates the arts in all its forms: dance, music, painting, jewelry, sculpture, photography, food and more. Continues through Sunday. Free. SoNo Historic District, along Washington and North and South Main streets, Norwalk.

Nature-Palooza Family Concert: 3 to 6 p.m. Bring a blanket and picnic dinner and enjoy family friendly music in a relaxed outdoor setting. Tickets are $5 for members and $8 for non-members. Children 2 and under are free. New Canaan Nature Center, 144 Oenoke Ridge Road.

Live Music By Guitarist Vinnie Ferone: 8 to 11 p.m. Guitarist Vinnie Ferone is performing. Free. Roger Sherman Inn, 195 Oenoke Ridge Road.

Sunday, Aug. 5

Gallery Exhibit - Opening Reception: 2 to 4 p.m. Opening reception for several new exhibits: a Guild Group Show "Collective Vision;" Robert Gregson "Full Tilt;" and "Silvermine, Milestone Graphics and the Connecticut Print Renaissance, 1979-1989." Free. Silvermine Arts Center, 1037 Silvermine Road.

Incendio Performs in Westport: 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Los Angeles-based Latin Guitar World Fusion Group performs. Free. at the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, 40 Jesup Rd., Westport.
