Whats Happening in New Canaan This Weekend NEW CANAAN, Conn. A fashion show, a celebration of art and a speech from a business leader are some of the events planned for this weekend in and around New Canaan.
Friday - Young Womens League of New Canaan Couture For A Cause: 7 p.m. Join the Young Womens League for its new spring fundraising event, which will be at the Loading Dock in Stamford. Models will take to the catwalk and debut the hottest spring fashions. Proceeds from the event will be used to pay for grants for organizations assisted by the League. Tickets are $75 per person. - First Saturdays at the New Canaan Nature Center: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. On the first Saturday of each month, Nature Center naturalists will lead guided activities for visitors, activities will take place in the Children's Play Garden and the Rock House will be open for exploration and discovery. There also will be a guided, seasonal activity for families with children ages 5 and older. This week's program "Composting at Home" will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Join Ms. Ali, master composter, and learn how you can make a difference by composting at home. Learn how easy and fun it can be for the family and how it will help out your garden plants too. First Saturday is free.
- Silvermine Arts Centers 90th Anniversary Gala and Benefit: 6:30 p.m. Keith Richards and Patti Hansen are honorary chairs for the center, promoting the arts within local communities through its outreach and scholarship programs. Cocktails will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner, a live auction and a reggae band. Proceeds will benefit Silvermine's educational, scholarship and outreach programs. - Conversation with General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt: 5 p.m. Immelt will speak on Competing in the Global Economy: What Works" at the Seldin Performing Arts Center at St Lukes School. The lecture is part of the New Canaan Librarys annual Conversations With Business Leaders. This event presents a rare opportunity to learn from some of the most dynamic leaders in the business world. Immelt is the ninth chairman of GE, a post he has held since Sept. 7, 2001, and has been named one of the World's Best CEOs three times by Barron's. He will address the timely and crucial topic of the worlds economy. Immelt has held several global leadership positions since joining GE, including roles in GE's plastics, appliance and health care businesses.
