The Kids and Special Needs Race will begin at 6:15 p.m., followed by the 5K race at 6:30 p.m.

The event "kicks" off in front of the New Balance Store at 128 Main St. with a friendly competition between Ron Rosenfeld and Tucker Murphy. The two community leaders will compete in a board-breaking competition symbolizing the perseverance shown by children with autism as they break through barriers every day.

Show support and "Get on Board" by heading to New Balance and purchasing a board for $10. The more boards the competitors break, the more money goes toward the new YMCA Playground.

Officiator of the match is Leif Becker, a two-time world record martial artist.

There will also be performances by New Canaan's School of Rock and a surprise guest to be announced.

Started in 2009 by Ron and Tina Rosenfeld, who lead New Balance, the race attracts over 600 runners and walkers from the area. Proceeds from this year's event will help fund a special needs playground at the YMCA.
