New Canaan Library Hosts Screening Of 'The Help'

NEW CANNAN, CONN. -- The New Canaan Library will host a teen movie night Thursday, with a screening of "The Help" from 6-8 p.m. in its teen room.

"The Help" is a 2011 American film adaptation of the novel of the same name. The film is about a young white woman in Jackson, Miss. and her relationship with two black maids during the early 1960s. The white woman, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, is a journalist who decides to write a book from the point of view of the maids, Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson (referred to as "the help"), exposing the racism they are faced with as they work for white families.

The movie stars Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Ahna O'Reilly, Chris Lowell, Sissy Spacek, Mike Vogel, Cicely Tyson and Allison Janney.
