NEW CANAAN, Conn. ? Hey, New Canaan. Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend? Here are a few events coming up in town and throughout the county:
Friday, Jan. 20
- 8 p.m.: Celebrated for its innovation, creativity and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance, The Philadelphia Dance Company, known as PHILADANCO, performs at Fairfield Universitys Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Tickets are $35 to $45.
- 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Audobon Greenwich will host a screening of the movie Mother Natures Child. The film explores natures powerful role in childrens health and development through the experience of toddlers, children in middle childhood and adolescents. Following the film, there will be a short discussion with a guest speaker from the Connecticut Outdoor & Environmental Education Association. There will be a pre-film reception at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 7:15 p.m. The snow date is Jan. 27.
Saturday, Jan. 21
- 1 p.m.: Make Survival Shoes in Fairfield: The Connecticut Audubon Society teaches kid to make a pair of back-country snowshoes. Participants will make an actual pair of decorative snowshoes constructed from white pine boughs. For children ages 6 and up with a participating adult. The fee is $5 per child/adult team for members and $8 for nonmembers. For more information, call 203-259-6305.
- 1 p.m.: Audubon Greenwich will host a 1.5-mile hike to look for winter birds and signs of wildlife. The event is free and for people ages 7 and up. You can RSVP at the Audubon store at 203-869-5272, ext. 221.
- 5 p.m.: The Governors of the New Canaan Historical Society invites donors, docents and volunteers to cocktail party in their honor at the Town House. The cost is $5 for historical society members and $10 for non-members.
- 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Live music by Vinnie Ferone at New Canaan's Roger Sherman Inn. For more information, visit the inns website at www.rogershermaninn.com.
Sunday, Jan. 22
- 2 p.m.: The New Canaan Librarys popular Sunday afternoon Notes in MidWinter Concert Series continues with Jonathan Yates, piano, Carol McGonnell, clarinet, and Ramin Ramarkrishnan, cello, playing works by Johannes Brahms. Admission is free but seating is limited, and early arrival is recommended. Notes in MidWinter is organized and sponsored by the music committee of the Friends of the Library, chaired by Wendy Kerner Lucas.
