The free event at the center off Lukes Wood Road will take place from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, said the president of the farm’s foundation, Sharon Prince.
The impressive line-up of things to do include presentations by former Olympic athletes, nature and wildlife tours, snow tubing, snowshoeing, ice skating, cross-country skiing, and, for the less adventuresome, relaxing by the fire with a mug of hot cocoa in the center’s River Building.
In one of the highlights of the day, Olympic athletes Leslie Krichko, a cross-country skier, and Brooklee Han, a figure skater and Redding resident, will join world champion snowboarder Adam Petraska for a meet-and-greet with visitors.
Han is an Australian-American figure skater who represented Australia at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Prince said. She will talk in the Grace Farms Library about her life as an athlete and the pursuit of sustained excellence in sports, Prince said.
Krichko will also lead a cross-country-trail tour.
Adam Petraska, the winner of two World Championships and five National Championships in snowboarding, is now assistant director of facilities at Grace Farms.
All ages are invited to learn the basics of snowshoeing, build snow sculptures, make ice-cream in Commons, or see the film, “The March of the Penguins.”
New Canaan’s School of Rock will perform in the Court, and lunch will be available for purchase in Commons until 3 p.m.
For a warm-up, visitors can indulge in the goodies at a hot cocoa bar.
The Grace Farms Foundation will collect also lightly-used winter clothing and coats for a local shelter during the special day.
