Angela, a Pound Ridge resident who previously worked in the fashion industry -- her last position was as senior vice president of merchandising for Jones New York -- said as part of a large Italian family, she practically grew up in the kitchen.
Segueing from fashion to food, as a result, was fairly seamless. "At Jones New York I worked with the design team from start to finish putting together the clothing lines. Food has the same parallel where you are designing your plate with color and texture to make it appealing to the eye," she said.
Family, too, is an important part of the business with son, Alex, also serving as partner. Angela said she and Sandy work together on all food/menu decisions and then consult their chefs to execute their creations. Alex has input as well into the menu and he is constantly testing new ideas.
New to the eatery, which has been in business for three years, is a move towards wholesale through expansion with its organic soups which will be shipped under the label Baldanza Soup Kitchen. The cafe is also expanding its organic catering as well. (Baldanza already does the cafe food for the Juliska flagship store in downtown Stamford.)
Baldanza is at 17 Elm St., (203) 966-4000, www.baldanzabc.com/.
