4 Rescued From Long Island Sound In Norwalk During Height Of Severe Storm Four people who were not wearing life jackets were rescued from the waters of the Long Island Sound in Fairfield County.  The incident occurred in Norwalk on Saturday, Aug. 3. According to members of the Norwalk Police Department's Marine Unit, the rescue took place during a large thunderstorm on Aug. 3 after the men's boat capsized. The department said that because there were no personal floatation devices onboard the vessel, the men had to tread water until help arrived. No one was injured. ID Released For CT Woman Pulled From Housatonic River A Connecticut woman who fell off a paddleboard in the Housatonic River and never resurfaced has been identified. The incident occurred in New Haven County around 6:15 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, in Seymour, according to Will Healey of the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection. Healey said DEEP received reports of a paddleboarder in the Housatonic River, located by boaters in the region. Shark Sighting Keeps Swimmers Out Of Water At Several Long Island Beaches A shark sighting kept swimmers out of the water at three New York beaches. The sighting was reported on Long Island at Nickerson Beach in Nassau County.  As a precaution, the town of Hempstead also closed Lido Beach and Malibu Beach for swimmers for a brief period early Saturday afternoon, Aug. 3.  Officials said the shark was spotted about 75 feet from the shore. Swimming resumed at the three beaches a short time after the sighting. Kayaker Dies After Overturning In CT Lake A missing kayaker died after his vessel capsized while he was reaching for a lost paddle, authorities said. The incident took place in New Haven County in Guilford on Quonnipaug Lake on Sunday, May 23. The missing paddler, an adult male, was recovered from the water by the Guilford Dive Team and CPR was administered, said Will Healey, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
