4 Cases Of Potentially Fatal Powassan Virus Reported In CT Four Connecticut residents have tested positive for the Powassan virus infection, the first to be detected in the state this year.  The virus is a sometimes fatal tick-borne infection that attacks a person's central nervous system, said officials with the Connecticut of Public Health (DPH). New London County Woman Dies After Tick Bite, Department Of Health Says State health officials announced the death of a Connecticut resident who developed symptoms of Powassan virus weeks after she was bit by a tick. The Connecticut Department of Public Health announced on Tuesday, June 7, that the New London County resident who was in her 90s died at the hospital on Tuesday, May 17.
