Lighting Strikes Chimney, Ignites Fire At CT Home A lightning strike to the chimney of a three-story Fairfield County home started a fire. The incident took place in Bridgeport around 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 6 on Mountain Grove Street, said Scott Appleby, director of emergency management for the city. The fire started when a line of storm cells passed through the area, Appleby said. The lightning struck the chimney causing moderate damage to the roof and third-floor apartment ceilings, he added. US Soldier From Connecticut Killed By Lightning Strike A soldier who was killed by a lightning strike during a training mission has been identified as being a Connecticut resident. Tolland County resident Sgt.1st Class Michael D. Clark, of the town of Bolton, died on Wednesday, July 20, at Fort Gordon, in Augusta, Georgia. During the training exercise, Clark, age 41, was killed and nine others sustained injuries associated with the lightning strike, said the Department of US Army Reserves.
