A former New London County counselor has admitted to submitting thousands of dollars of fraudulent claims to Medicaid for therapy services he never provided, officials said.
Former East Lyme resident Jeffrey Slocum, age 55, pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud and kickback charges on Wednesday, Aug. 16, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut announced.

A Connecticut man has been charged with savagely abusing a boy who was subjected to beatings, locked in a closet, and living in "inhumane" conditions.
New London County resident Michael Gregor, age 41, formerly of New London, who recently moved to East Lyme, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 23.
According to Capt. Matthew Galante, of the New London Police, Gregor was arrested in connection with an incident that took place on Sunday, Jan. 29, at a home in New London involving a reported domestic dispute.

Wind gusts as high as around 60 miles per hour have resulted in downed trees and tree limbs, with eastern Connecticut most heavily affected.

Nearly 10,000 residents in Connecticut are still without power more than 24 hours after Tropical Depression Ida made its way through the region.
