Henry Ayers told the outlet he was with his troop from Cooperstown camping at Harriman State Park, located in both Rockland and Orange counties, Sunday, May 1, when he awoke to a sharp pain in his leg. "I look up and it was a giant bear,” Ayers told ABC7. “I thought it was a nightmare. It was honestly crazy. I didn't think I was awake." Covid-19 And Lost Hikers - More Rescues As Newbies Take To The Woods In a situation that is becoming more common, firefighters in New Haven County recently rescued a hiker who got lost on an area mountain after nightfall.  Crews responded to Mount Carmel mountain at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 to rescue "another lost hiker in the dark," Fire Chief Gary Merwede wrote on the department's Twitter page.  Merwede announced that a rescue team had located the hiker, who was uninjured, in a later Tweet at approximately 9:15 p.m. Members of the Hamden Fire Department said they have sent teams to rescue at least tw…
