An elaborate phone scam duped a Connecticut victim into forking over more than $6,000 and almost cost them thousands more, police said.
Waldy Santiago, age 25, of Providence, Rhode Island, turned himself in at a State Police facility in Westbrook in Middlesex County on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in connection with the alleged scheme, according to Connecticut State Police.
Investigators were initially contacted by a Middlesex County resident in Killingworth on Friday, Aug. 25, reporting an elderly scam.

State Police See Witnesses To Fatal Wallingford I-91 Crash That Left Person Dead
Connecticut State Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal two-car crash that left one person dead.
The crash took place in New Haven County around 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5 on 1-91 northbound near Exit 15 in Wallingford.
According to state police, a 2019 Hyundai Sonata Sport, driven by Anna Munafo, age 31, of Killingworth, was traveling in the left lane of three on I-91 northbound when it was hit head-on by a2017 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Joan Hall, age 39, of New York City, after the Equinox ran off the roadway and crossed back into the northbound lane.

18-Year-Old Killed In Single-Vehicle CT Crash
One teenager was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash in Connecticut.
It happened around 3:50 p.m. Friday, March 11 in the Town of Haddam when the vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, was traveling southbound on Route 154, according to Connecticut State Police.
While negotiating a left curve n the roadway (south of Landing Road), the 19-year-old lost control of vehicle, police said.
