Two Teenagers Injured From Separate Shootings In Region, Police Say Two teenagers were hospitalized in two separate shootings that happened over the weekend in Worcester, authorities said. First, a 15-year-old boy was shot on Vernon Street around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, Worcester Police said. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Then, 17-year-old boy was shot in the area of Orne Street after police responded to a ShotSpotter activation just before 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, police added. Joint Investigation Leads To Arrest Of 'High-Impact' Trafficker Of Drugs, Firearms From CT Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who investigators believe is a high-impact trafficker of drugs and firearms. Luis Ortiz, from Worcester, Massachusetts and Putnam, Connecticut, was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 17, at a home in Worcester following an investigation. Police said Ortiz was charged with gun and narcotics offenses, including the illegal sale of firearms, ammunition, and fentanyl.  The investigation into Ortiz's activities began in January after troopers received information that he was illegally in possession of firearms, authorities said. Officer Dies Trying To Rescue 14-Year-Old Who Also Drowned In Massachusetts Pond A police officer drowned after going into a pond in Massachusetts to try to rescue a teenage boy who also died. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 4 in the pond at Green Hill Park in Worcester. The officer who died has been identified as five-year department member Enmanuel "Manny" Familia, age 38, Worcester Police said at a news conference Friday.
