Beloved CT Police Officer, 56, Dies Unexpectedly Police, family, and friends are mourning the loss of a longtime and much beloved Fairfield County police officer who died unexpectedly.  Stratford Officer Ken Kubel, age 56, died earlier this week. He served with the Bridgeport Police Department for 25 years from 1990 to 2015, retiring with the rank of sergeant, said Capt. Former CT State Senator Dies From Injuries Sustained In Crash Eight days after he was critically injured in a Fairfield County vehicle crash, former State Senator Edwin Gomes has died from his injuries. Gomes, who was injured in the Dec. 13 crash, died on Tuesday, Dec. 22. The crash took place around 6:53 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, at the intersection of Boston Avenue and Noble Avenue in Bridgeport, said Bridgeport Police Captain Kevin Gilleran.
