Adult Male Bear Shot, Killed By Canton Business Owner In Self-Defense A Connecticut business owner who was cleaning up trash from around a garbage dumpster shot and killed a bear that approached him. The incident occurred in Hartford County early Monday, June 3, in Canton. Paul Copleman, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said the bear, an adult male, had gotten into the "unsecured" dumpster. So far this year, there have been 65 entries into homes -- the highest since 2004 -- with damage done to 286 structures, including homes, said officials with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Separate Coyote Attacks On Dogs Reported In CT Two dogs were attacked and injured by coyotes in separate attacks in Connecticut. The Hartford County incidents took place in Burlington around dusk on Sunday, Oct. 2 in the Johnnycake Mountain Road area. According to Burlington Police Animal Control Officer Katie Meskun, the first dog was attacked by two coyotes when he was let outside of his home. Woman Bitten By Coyote While Walking Dog In CT Park, Police Say Police are warning area residents that a woman was bitten by a coyote while walking her dog in a park. The incident took place in Fairfield County around 6:30 a.m., Thursday, June 11, when the animal attacked the woman at Waveny Park in New Canaan, police said. Animal Control officers are advising that people avoid the trails and tall grassy areas of the park.
