Grenade Discovered At CT Airport Temporarily Closes Terminal

Airport officials closed the departures terminal of a Connecticut airport after a passenger attempted to bring a hollowed-out grenade through security.

The New Haven County incident happened on the morning of Wednesday, May 8 at Tweed Airport in the city of New Haven.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Dan Velez, the spokesman for the New England Transportation Security Association (TSA), the grenade was detected during a security screening.

TSA, local law enforcement, and the New Haven bomb squad were contacted, and the grenade was determined to be inert.

“No grenade...real, inert, or toy is allowed to travel with you,” Velez reiterated on the post.

The Tweed Airport closed down the Departures Terminal at 9 a.m. following the item’s discovery; it was reopened after TSA cleared the concern.

"Prop grenades are always gonna be a showstopper," Tweed Airport's X account wrote under Velez's post.

"Kudos to TSA and NHPD for quickly getting us up and flying again."
