Hearing Scheduled For Proposed I-684 Toll Along Mile-Long Stretch That Runs Through Greenwich
A hearing has been scheduled as lawmakers in Connecticut get ready for a vote on proposed tolls on state highways, including a gantry on a mile-long stretch of I-684 that runs through Greenwich. A vote following the hearing could come as soon as next week. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont introduced a plan for 12 statewide tolls, including one in a remote stretch of I-684 near the Greenwich-North Castle town line that will force truck drivers to pay, despite being in the state for only about one mile. With an influx of $700 million in tolls, the state could afford to widen parts of I-95 south of New Haven, he said. But the governor said the state needs $2 billion-a-year to b…

The survey was conducted by AAA Allied and AAA Northeast, the two clubs that serve Connecticut. About 47 percent of respondents said they would support tolls, while another 16 percent favored increasing federal and state gas taxes. Five percent supported charging a fee based on annu…

State Postpones $4.3B In Transportation Projects, Proposes Rail Fare Hike
FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The state Department of Transportation is indefinitely postponing hundreds of transportation projects totaling $4.3 billion until more revenue can be secured for the state's Special Transportation Fund, which is used to pay for repair projects and the operation of the DOT, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Wednesday. The postponement of the projects is on top of a proposal to increase fares on train and bus services in the state. The DOT has proposed an increase of 10 percent on rail fares, and a 25 cent increase in bus fares this year, followed by 5 percent increases…
