Speeding Stop Leads To DUI Charge For Monroe Man In Westport
A traffic stop for speeding led to the arrest of an area man for driving while intoxicated.
James Francois, 42, of Monroe, was arrested around 11:53 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, after being stopped for speeding on Riverside Avenue, said Westport Police.
According to police, a Westport officer was conducting speed limit enforcement on Riverside Avenue when his radar clocked Francois' vehicle traveling northbound on Riverside Avenue above the posted limit.
After stopping Francois, the officer could detect an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, police said.

The numbers are in and drivers in Connecticut were safer this year compared to last year with fewer tickets for speeding and traffic crashes and no fatalities.
According to Connecticut State Police, they received 7,184 calls for service during the holiday period which ran from 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 through 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 7.
During the time period, troopers focused on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols were also in place over the entire weekend.

Here's How Many Crashes Have Been Reported On CT Roadways During July 4th Holiday
Over the two-day Fourth of July time period so far, Connecticut State Police say troopers have responded to a total of 79 motor vehicle crashes, with one serious injury.
Since the holiday enforcement got underway on Wednesday, July 3, at 7 p.m., state police responded to 2,642 calls for service, including the 79 for crashes, which, fortunately, none resulted in fatalities.
Other stops included helping 112 disabled motor vehicles 23 arrests for driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Speeding Stop, K9 Search Leads To Drug Charges For Northern Westchester Woman In Wilton
A 23-year-old Northern Westchester woman who was stopped for speeding in Fairfield County ended up in handcuffs after a police K-9 allegedly found cocaine in her vehicle.
Ariana Muriqi, of Yorktown Heights, was arrested around 10:35 a.m., Sunday, June 16, after being stopped for traveling 57 mph in a 40 mph zone on Danbury Road at Westport Road, said the Wilton Police Department.
While speaking with Muriqi, officers said she revealed "several indicators," that drugs might be involved. A drug-detecting K-9 was requested at the scene, police said.
