Authorities Rescue Cat Found Abandoned In Cold At Highway Rest Stop In Fairfield County Authorities helped rescue a cat found abandoned in the cold at a highway rest stop in Fairfield County. Connecticut State Police and New Canaan Animal Control assisted after a cat was found abandoned in a cat carrier at the I-95 rest stop on Monday, Jan. 24, according to the New Canaan Police Department. The cat was taken to a veterinarian, who found that the animal had suffered trauma to an eye and two broken legs, police reported. The cat was named "Highway," police said. The rescue took place around 6:45 a.m., Saturday, July 11, when New Canaan Police officers responded to the New Canaan Post Office for a report of a suspicious box on the landing dock. Johnathan Malizia Of New Canaan Dies At 32 Johnathan M. Malizia, a longtime resident of New Canaan, died on Tuesday, March 12 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 32. He was born in Stamford on October 29, 1986, the son of Kenneth and Maureen Winters Malizia of New Canaan. He graduated from New Canaan High School in 2004 and began working for his father’s local cleaning business.
