Darien's William Jerome Bellis, 92, Will Be Remembered As Good-Natured, Loyal, Dependable
William Jerome Bellis (Bill), of Darien, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the age of 92 surrounded by his family. He bravely fought lung cancer for over a year. Bill was born on May 12, 1930, in New York, NY to the late William Bellis and Anne Gallagher Bellis. His parents were immigrants from Liverpool, England, and Donegal, Ireland, respectively. Bill graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School, in New Rochelle, where he played on the basketball and baseball teams. He went on to earn a BA in History from Iona College in 1953. A native New Yorker who lived in the Boston area and was a successful financial executive has died at the age of 61. Suzanne Marie Irwin, of Charlestown, Massachusetts, who grew up in Westchester County, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 17, after 13-month illness with Glioblastoma, her obituary said. She grew up in Larchmont and graduated from Mamaroneck High School, according to her obituary. Ida: Body Of College Professor Swept Away In Floodwaters Recovered
The body of a college professor who was swept away with her husband by floodwaters from Storm Ida has been recovered in Westchester. The two were trying to get home from Iona College in New Rochelle to Rye Brook on Thursday, Sept 2 when they were swept down the Blind Brook Creek from their vehicle following the Wednesday, Sept. 1 storm. Two longtime computer science professors in New York were among those killed in Westchester County during Storm Ida as it whipped across the region producing severe flash flooding and high winds. New York City is now officially on track to be the final of the state's 10 regions to reopen as it continues recovering from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. New Iona College men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino has sold his waterfront Florida mansion for $17 million as he prepares to make his way to Westchester. Captain Donald Anderson has been named Darien Chief of Police. He will take over as the Darien Police Department’s 11th Chief of Police when Chief Ray Osborne retires at the end of the summer, according to the Darien Police Commission. A popular school administrator in Northern Westchester and youth sports coach in Fairfield County has died at age 53. Brian Davidson was assistant principal at Fox Lane Middle School in Bedford who worked in the Bedford Central School District for 20 years. He also served as a guidance counselor during that time.
