Fire Displaces New Canaan Family A two-alarm fire left a New Canaan home with extensive damage, officials said. Fire crews were dispatched to a Strawberry Hill Road home shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, where there was a report of a fire that spread from the chimney to the surrounding walls and an attic space, Fire Marshal Fred Baker said. “The fire appears to have been caused by a breach in the chimney system, allowing hot embers to escape and ignite the structural members,” he said. Paramedics and crews from the Hamden Fire Department responded to a Bowen Street home late on Monday, Aug. 12, when the driver set off a chain reaction, causing structural damage to the home, fire officials said. The driver was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital in critical condition, officials said. No one was injured in the home, and the damage was contained mostly to the porch.
