Harvard Grad Student Becomes First Active Military Member Crowned Miss America
A graduate student at Harvard has made history as the first active duty member of the military to be crowned Miss America. Madison Marsh, who is working on her master's degree in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and currently a graduate intern with Harvard Medical School, was crowned on Sunday, Jan. 14. Darien's William Jerome Bellis, 92, Will Be Remembered As Good-Natured, Loyal, Dependable
William Jerome Bellis (Bill), of Darien, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the age of 92 surrounded by his family. He bravely fought lung cancer for over a year. Bill was born on May 12, 1930, in New York, NY to the late William Bellis and Anne Gallagher Bellis. His parents were immigrants from Liverpool, England, and Donegal, Ireland, respectively. Bill graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School, in New Rochelle, where he played on the basketball and baseball teams. He went on to earn a BA in History from Iona College in 1953. A pair of school students in New England were among 40 nationally that were chosen as finalists in the prestigious 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS). Wilton Resident Peggy Grodd Spearheads Team That Raises $2M For Cancer Research
Wilton resident Peggy Grodd has worked diligently to spearhead a team that has now raised a cumulative $2 million for cancer research. Peggy and her team, now called Amy’s Admirers/Webber’s Warriors, joined the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk in honor of Peggy’s sister, Amy Kohlberg Quinlan, who died of cancer in 2003. The team name was eventually expanded to include Neal Webber, a friend of Peggy’s husband’s friend who died of prostate cancer. A pair of enterprising New Rochelle High School freshmen took to the field for a charitable cause at their third annual Be a Good Cookie Lacrosse Tournament.
